ROME, Ga. – On the campus of Berry College, the Lynx women's tennis team was not able to end the regular season conference trip with a win as they fell 7-2 to a strong Vikings squad.
The Lynx did not open doubles competition strong even though they played incredibly well. Berry overpowered the Lynx and really looked like the No. 1 contender to University of the South in the upcoming conference tournament.
Amelia McIsaac and
Anna Volkov did well to keep the first doubles match close, but the difference was one break of serve and the final score was 8-5.
Singles play was heated and the Lynx were determined to make up ground. However, the deficit was too large for Rhodes and they only managed to claim two points out of six. Once again,
Anna Volkov claimed match of the day honors with her awe-inspiring performance on court three. Volkov played three straight tiebreakers with the third and final tiebreaker being a 10-point super tiebreaker to decide the match. After what seemed to be over three hours, Smith from Berry outlasted Volkov and was able to claim the final match for the Vikings.
The Lynx will enter the conference tournament on April 25 at the Old Fort Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tenn. as the No. 5 seed. Their opponent is to be determined after all of the remaining conference matches have been played.
