ROME, Ga. – The No. 19 Rhodes baseball squad fell to Berry College, 12-7 on Sunday in Southern Athletic Association play.
The Lynx are now 26-10 and 12-6 in league play while the Vikings improve to 24-11 and 12-6 in conference action.
The Lynx got on the board in the second inning, scoring two runs when Rhodes executed small ball, scoring
Patrick Kilkenny on a sacrifice bunt from
Josh Goodwin and the
Walker McWherter found his way home for the second run.
Rhodes added another run in the third when
Strother White singled to right field, scoring
Ryan Olive. But the Vikings wouldn't keep quite as they posted two runs of their own in the third inning, making the count 3-2.
Berry posted a big fifth and seventh inning, scoring four runs in the fifth and five in the seventh, taking an 11-3 lead. Rhodes fought to rally, adding three runs in the eighth When Gietema hit a three run bomb. Berry added another run to its lead in the eighth, pulling to a 12-6 lead.
Rhodes managed one more run in the ninth, but ultimately fell 12-7.
Daniel Morris got the start for the Lynx, throwing for four and two thirds innings, striking out one batter.
Max Halasz came in for one and two thirds innings, also striking out one.
Thomas Beamish faced two batters for the Lynx before Kilkenny finished the outing with an inning, ringing up one K on the rubber.
Rhodes worked for 15 hits, including four from White and three from McWherter with a triple.
Rhodes will wrap up its conference season on April 18-19 when they play host to Birmingham Southern College. The Lynx will honor its senior members in a ceremony held prior to the first pitch on April 19.
