MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes baseball defeated inter-town rivals Victory University, 4-2 on Wednesday.
Rhodes improves to a record of 8-4, while Victory falls to 7-8.
The Rhodes pitching staff got a lot of work in, with
Josh Olejnik starting on the mound for the Lynx. Olejnik threw for three innings, where he struck out two batters and gave up two hits.
Jake Owens pitched one and a third inning, and struck out one, while giving up one run.
Thomas Beamish also came in and pitched one and one third inning, and struck out a batter in his time on the rubber.
Max Halasz, who earned the win, threw one and a third inning, while only allowing one hit.
Blake Glauben relieved Halasz, and got the save, throwing for two innings, and striking out two.
Victory got on the board first in the fifth when Shaw Dickerson singled to send home Machado and make the count 1-0. The Lynx turned it on in the seventh inning, with
Ryan Olive hitting home the first Rhodes run scoring
Justin Genter.
Marcus Moreland then scored Olive with a single of his own, followed by a
Brendan DePoy hit to center that scored
Strother White.
Victory tacked on one more run in the bottom of the seventh, when Kent Voorhies singled up the right field line to send home Dickerson. Rhodes added an insurance run in the eighth when Olive earned his second RBI, scoring
Bill Munson.
Rhodes posted 13 hits in the win, while the pitching staff held Victory to only five hits.
Rhodes will return to the field on March 8 when they host conference foe Oglethorpe University. The Lynx will throw out the first pitch at 11 a.m.
