No. 16 Rhodes sweeps Sewanee, finishing 6-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 16 Rhodes baseball squad completed the sweep of Southern Athletic Association rivals Sewanee on Sunday with a 6-2 win over the Tigers.

The Lynx push past the 20 win plateau and boast an overall record of 21-6 and 10-2 in league play. The Tigers fall to 8-15 and 0-12 in the conference race.

Sewanee got on the board first, scoring a run in the first inning. Rhodes came back and notched four runs in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead after a David Balaguer single to right field scored Bill Munson and Josh Keen.

The Tigers added another run in the sixth to make the count 4-2, but it wouldn't be enough as the Lynx added two more runs, with the first coming in the sixth inning after a Andrew Wallis double sent home Patrick Kilkenny. The Lynx' final run was added in the eighth when Kilkenny found his way home again, making the final score 6-2.

The Lynx posted 10 hits in the outing, paced by doubles from Balaguer, Kilkenny and two doubles from Wallis.

Daniel Morris got the start and the win for the Lynx, throwing for five and two thirds innings. While on the rubber, Morris struck out seven batters and only gave up three walks. Max Halasz came into relieve, throwing for two and a third inning and racking up three K's in his time on the mound. Thomas Beamish closed the contest also snagging a strikeout.

Rhodes will hit the road for their next four contests, with the first stop at Millsaps College on April 5. The Lynx will be back in Memphis on April 18 when they close out conference play in a three game series against Birmingham-Southern College. The Lynx will also honor their senior members of the squad in a ceremony held prior to the first pitch on April 20.
