MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 14 Rhodes baseball team swept Maryville College to increase their winning streak to five games with a 13-8 victory and 6-4 win.
The Lynx improve to 23-6 on the year while the Scots fall to 11-14 in 2014.
The first game proved to be a high scoring affair, as the Lynx posted nine runs by the second inning. Rhodes notched 13 hits in the win to go their 13 runs.
Patrick Kilkenny led the way with a pair of doubles, followed by Brenden DePoy who had two hits with one double. Rhodes held on for the 13-8 victory.
Thomas Beamish started the contest on the rubber, and in rout to his win, he threw four strikeouts and only walked one batter in his two innings of work. A host of other Lynx took the mound including three innings from
Josh Olejnik, two thirds inning from
Max Halasz,
Jackson Lourie and a third inning from
James Quattrocchi and
Philip Sartain.
In the second game the Lynx topped the Scots 6-4. In a tighter defensive game, the Lynx saw Maryville post their four runs in the first two innings. The Lynx played catchup and passed the Scots with four runs in the fifth inning, a run in the sixth and seventh to close the game at 6-4.
The Lynx notched nine hits to the four from Maryville, paced by a pair of hits from
Justin Genter, including a double.
Bill Munson hit a two run triple with
Andrew Wallis chipping in a double of his own.
Strother White started the game for the Lynx, throwing two innings with three strikeouts.
Max Halasz threw for an inning, before
Adam Putnam came in for the win, throwing three innings and two strikeouts.
Blake Glauben got the save in the final inning of work, earning his second save of the season.
Rhodes will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Jackson Miss. to take on Millsaps College in a Southern Athletic Association series.
