Cleanthes earns 300th career win with blank of Sewanee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes head baseball coach Jeff Cleanthes earned his 300th win of his career with a doubleheader defeat of Sewanee, 16-0 and 1-0.
 
The wins moves the No. 16 ranked the Lynx to 20-6 and 9-2 in conference play. The Tigers fall to 8-14 and 0-11 in the Southern Athletic Association.
 
Rhodes piled on a host of runs in the first inning, pulling to a 10-0 lead early. The second inning proved to be much of the same, with the Lynx added four more runs, as their lead swelled to 14-0. The Lynx tacked on their final two runs in the third inning to post a final score of 16-0.
 
The Lynx notched eight hits in the win to the Tigers two.
 
Blake Glauben got the shutout and the win for the Lynx, throwing five innings with six strikeouts. Jackson Lourie and Jake Owens came in for an inning each and both pitchers threw two strikeouts in their time on the rubber.
 
In the second game, the Lynx topped the Tigers in a much lower scoring affair, defeating Sewanee 1-0.
 
Adam Putnam threw a complete seven innings, improving his record to 5-1 on the season. He threw five K's and only four walks on the day.
 
The Lynx' solo run came in the fifth inning when David Balaguer hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Andrew Wallis for the win.
 
Rhodes tallied six hits in the win, to Sewanee's two.

Cleanthes is in his 10th year as head coach of Rhodes. The Lynx have won at least 22 games in each of the past eight season and have won at least 25 games in six of those seasons. The best campaign under Cleanthes to date was the 2007 season where the Lynx finished 36-10, capturing the SCAC East title. Coach is 261-185 while at Rhodes, and has compiled an overall record of 300-245.
 
The Lynx will wrap up the series with the Tigers tomorrow, March 30 and 1 p.m.
