DANVILLE, Ky. – Rhodes women's lacrosse dropped a heart breaker to Centre College on Saturday in Southern Athletic Association action, 9-7.
Rhodes falls to 5-3 on the year and 1-3 in SAA play while the Colonels advance to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in league action.
The Lynx opened the scoring with a goal from
Jenny Bitzer to pull ahead to a 1-0 lead. The Colonels had a three goal answer, to go up 3-1 before
Morgan Fuller netted another Lynx score. Nine minutes later Fuller found the back of the net for the second time, pulling to 5-3. Rhodes went into the half trailing 7-3.
The Lynx had a big second half with two more goals from Fuller, a
Lisle Bruns score and a
Tori Van Heyst goal. The Lynx pulled within 8-7 with 13:35 to play but couldn't overcome the Colonels as Centre finished with a goal and the 9-7 victory.
Rhodes was right on the heels of the league-leading Colonels, with 26 shots to their opponents 29. It was also a close contest in the ground balls category with Rhodes picking up 21 to Centre's 24 ground balls.
Sarah Daniels was the Lynx net minder for all 60 minutes of play, where she grabbed 11 saves in the loss.
The Lynx will return to action on March 29 when they host Millsaps College at 1 p.m.
