MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Rhodes baseball fell in a neutral site battle with Millsaps College, 16-6 on Sunday.
Rhodes moves to 1-3 on the season while the Majors post a 3-0 record in 2014. The contest does not count towards either teams 2014 SAA record.
Rhodes saw the Majors post their first run in the third inning, and Millsaps tacked on seven more in the fourth.
The Lynx offense got their bats going in the sixth inning when a
Patrick Kilkenny singled up the middle to score
Justin Genter. In the same inning the Lynx added a run on a bases loaded walk to
Ryan Olive sending
Bill Munson home.
Millsaps added three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 12-2.
The Lynx answered with a four run seventh of their own, when
Walker McWherter hit a three run bomb in the top of the seventh. Rhodes posted another run when
Strother White reached base on error, sending Munson home for the Lynx' final score. Millsaps notched on another two runs in the seventh and two more runs in the eighth to make the final score 16-6.
Rhodes pitcher
Adam Putnam got the start on the hill for the Lynx, and in his three innings, he threw for three strike outs and three walks. A host of Lynx also time on the mound in Thomas Beamush, Kilkenny,
Jackson Roberts and
James Quattrocchi. Between the four relievers, the Lynx gave up 12 hits and notched two strike outs.
Coach
Jeff Cleanthes squad tallied six hits on the day with three from Genter, and one from McWherter, Munson and Kilkenny.
Rhodes will be back in action this weekend on Feb. 14 at they travel to take on Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C. at 3 p.m.
