MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Rhodes baseball team picked up its first loss of the season today as they fell to Randolph-Macon, 9-2 in Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday.
Rhodes earns it first loss of the season, moving to 1-1 while the Yellow Jackets move to 1-1 on the young season.
Randolph-Macon got on the board early, scoring runs in the first three innings, with one run in the first, one in the second and three runs in the third to go up 5-0. Rhodes sent home a run in the bottom of the fourth, when
Strother White scored after stealing third base, and advanced on a throwing error.
The yellow Jackets made another splash in the sixth inning with another score to take the 6-1 lead. Randolph-Macon had a three run ninth inning, and the Lynx got something going with their one run it the ninth, but could muster enough for a complete comeback, falling 9-2.
Rhodes posted 10 hits, with two from the bat of
Josh Goodwin.
Ryan Olive,
Patrick Kilkenny and Goodwin each knocked a double in play for the Lynx.
A host of Lynx made it to the mound, with
Daniel Morris earning the start. He gave up five hits and four runs in two innings pitched.
Max Halasz relieved Morris, and threw six strike outs to only three walks in his three and a third innings pitched. He was followed by
James Quattrocchi,
Josh Olejnik and
Saunders Alpaugh. While Olejnik was on the mound, he grabbed two strikeouts in two pitched innings with zero walks.
The Lynx will wrap up the road series tomorrow, Feb. 9 as they face Millsaps College in a neutral site game in Montgomery, Ala. at 1 p.m.
