Rhodes slips past Wartburg, 4-3

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Rhodes Baseball hung on to the victory against Wartburg College on Saturday, defeating the Knights 4-3.

Rhodes improves to 4-2 on the season while Wartburg begins their season off with a 0-1 start.

The Knights saw their first run early on in the game in the first inning, then added two more later on the game for a total of three runs in the game.

The Lynx were not far behind as they saw their first run in the bottom of the second inning when Will Gietema stole home as Ryan Olive stole second. This run tied the game up at 1-1.

The Lynx really started heating up in the bottom of the third, starting with a single from Justin Genter which lead to Bill Munson scoring the Lynx's second run. In the same inning, Justin Genter scored the Lynx's third run which put the Lynx at a comfortable lead of 3-1.

The Lynx sealed the deal when Olive hit a single out to left field which advanced Gietema to third and Patrick Kilkenny to home plate, scoring the Lynx's fourth and final run.

Adam Putnam was on the mound for the Lynx pitching six innings. He struck out seven batters while only giving up three hits and two walks.

Thomas Beamish came in for the Lynx and pitched for two-thirds of an inning, giving up two hits and one run.

It was Max Halasz who took the mound after Beamish, pitching the rest of the two and one-third innings left in the game, striking out three batters, which ultimately led to him getting the save.

The Lynx will be back at it tomorrow, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. in a double header against the Bears from Washington University in St. Louis.
