Rhodes narrowly misses against Southwestern, 7-6

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Rhodes men's lacrosse team dropped a nail biter on Saturday against Southwestern University, 7-6.
 
The loss puts the Lynx at 1-1 on the season, while the Pirates advance to 2-0 in 2014.
 
Jason Lee scored the opening goal for Rhodes, with the assist from MG Jadick, to pull ahead 1-0 with 13:26 to play in the first. Rhodes gave up two back-to-back goals at the 4:40 mark to fall behind, 2-1. Lee scored his final goal of the contest in the final three minutes of the opening quarter to knot things back up at 2-2.
 
The Lynx outscored the Pirates 3-1 in the second quarter, with goals from Alessandro Secino, Merrill Charette and MG Jadick to take a 5-3 lead into the half time break.
 
The Pirates came out firing in the second half of action, with Charette scoring the lone Lynx goal in the second half of action. Southwestern scored three unanswered goals in the final period to take home the 7-6 victory.
 
Braxton Carr got all 60 minutes in the goal for the Lynx, grabbing 12 saves on 19 shots in the contest.
 
Rhodes reined victorious in face offs, winning nine of 16 total. The Lynx fell behind in the shot category, with the Pirates outshooting by a margin of 32-26. Southwestern also picked up more ground balls, by a count of 33-26.
 
The Lynx will look to bounce back on Feb. 20 as they host the University of Dubuque at 5 p.m. at Crain Field.
