Rhodes posts statement win over Centenary, 81-42

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a strong team showing, the Rhodes women's basketball team downed Centenary College on Saturday, 81-42.
 
Rhodes improves to 6-1 on the season while the Ladies fall to 0-7 to begin the year.
 
Dy'Nelle Todman got things rolling for the Lynx, knocking down an early six foot baseline jumper to take the 2-0 edge at the 19:16 mark. It was all head coach Matt Dean's squad for the next 19 minutes, as every Lynx on the roster saw minutes.
 
After a 13-0 run, which featured a host of Lynx in the paint and a deep Madison Butler three, the Lynx established a 19-6 lead with 11:08 to play. Rhodes continued to work ahead of their counterparts, when an Erin Deery three and a Jessie Ustick lay-in gave the Lynx a 31-13 lead at the 7:09 mark.
 
Rhodes closed out the half with a strong offensive showing, including back to back layups from Taylor Money, as the Lynx took a 44-18 lead into the break.
 
In the first half of action, Rhodes had a chain of Lynx work into the scoring column. Symone Daniels was the scoring leader, with eight points at the break. Money chipped in seven first half points, with Butler adding six. The Ladies were led by Haley Deshautelle who netted four first half points.
 
Rhodes held Centenary to just 26.9 percent shooting in the first half, and a mere 20.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Lynx posted a 48.5 field goal percentage at the midway point, with a 33.3 percent mark from three point land. Rhodes forced 13 first half turnovers, managing six team steals.
 
Coach Matt Dean's squad continued to pour on the defensive pressure in the second half, which turned into offensive success for the Lynx. The Rhodes post players opened the half with a pair of buckets each from Kramer and Daniels, to extend the lead to 34 with 15:39 to play at 52-18.
 
Rhodes continued to build on its lead, and after another Deery three, Ustick lay-in combo, the Lynx pushed ahead to a 68-24 lead by the 8:23 mark. Rhodes was able to maintain its distance, and brought home an 81-42 win.
 
Daniels led all scorers with 12 points, and was one rebound shy of a double-double at nine. Deery ended the contest with 11 points and three assists in the outing. Butler notched nine points, shooting 3-5 from beyond the arc.
 
The Ladies were led by Briana Edwards who netted 11 points and seven rebounds, followed by Deshautelle who scored eight.
 
Rhodes held Centenary to 26.0 percent shooting from the field and just 12.5 percent from three point land. Rhodes posted 44.8 percent shooting in the contest, with an impressive 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. Rhodes forced 23 turnovers in the contest, which they turned into 21 points.
 
Rhodes will hit the road for its next contest, when the Lynx travel to Fulton, Mo. to take on Westminster College.
