Rhodes advances to SAA semi-finals, downing Oglethorpe 3-1

DANVILLE, Ky. – In the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association Conference Tournament, the Rhodes women's soccer team downed Oglethorpe University, 3-1.
 
The Lynx improve to 11-4-2 on the year while the Stormy Petrels finish the 2014 season with a record of 4-12.
 
The Lynx wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Hannah Selner netted a goal unassisted at the 11 minute mark. Just five minutes later, H. Selner found the back of the net again, this time off a corner kick delivered from Shannon Donelson to give the Lynx a 2-0 lead. The Lynx took the two goal advantage into the halftime break.
 
The Rhodes offense went to work again in the second half, this time with Emma Selner beating the Oglethorpe keeper for a third Lynx goal in the 56th minute. Oglethorpe ended their scoring drought in the 58th minute,  when Claire Stauber netted the lone Petrel score.
 
The Lynx defense held on for the 3-1 win, advancing to the semi-final round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament.
 
Rhodes saw two keepers in goal, with Chandler Kuhlman earning the start and the first 45 minutes of play where she grabbed one save. Anna Maldonado picked up the final 45 minutes of play as the Lynx net minder, grabbing one save.
 
Rhodes outworked the Petrels in categories outside of scoring, shooting 32 shots to Oglethorpe's five. The Lynx were also awarded more corner kicks by a tally of 13-1.
 
Rhodes will advance to the semi-final round of the SAA tournament, facing the winner of the Sewanee, Hendrix College match up on Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m.
