Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rhodes trips against Centenary, 65-57

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a physical battle, the Rhodes men's basketball team fell to Centenary College on Saturday, 65-57.

The Lynx fall to 3-2 on the year, while the Gentlemen improve to 2-3 in the 2014-2015 season.

Rhodes got the ball rolling as Geoff Livsey's seven point jump start, a pair of lay-ups and a deep trey ball, gave the Lynx a 7-2 lead by the 16:31 mark. The hot start was short lived, as the Lynx fell behind by the 11:15 mark after Kendall Demouchet knocked down a jumper to take the 11-9 lead.

While the Gents lead fluctuated, a key Drew Miller three with 7:19 to play cut the lead to just two at 18-16. The Lynx couldn't overtake Centenary, as a 6-0 run padded the Gents lead with 3:15 on the clock, after a James Sapp lay-in and a pair of Demouchet free-throws made the count 27-18.

The Lynx decreased their deficit to single digits after a pair of Luke Collins free throws cut the lead to 30-22 to close out the half.

Rhodes posted only 29.2 percent shooting from the field in the opening period, but went 100 percent from the charity stripe. Centenary shot a 44.0 field goal percentage, with 25.0 percent from beyond the arc.

Livsey led the Lynx with his nine points, with Miller adding seven to the Rhodes totals. Travion Kirkendoll added nine as well, with Demouchet finishing with seven first half points.

In the second half, the Lynx went tick for tack with the Gents, with Ryan Van Hoeck working to get the momentum started after a dunk to cut the lead to seven with 16:55 to play at 32-35. Centenary aimed to keep their distance, as their advantage grew to double digits after a 9-2 run at the 12:21 mark made the count 44-30.

A pair of back-to-back three's from Tate Sledge and Dylan Bliss with 10:19 to play sparked the Lynx, cutting the lead to 44-36. With no team able to score for nearly three minutes, Livsey broke the silence with a pair of lay-ups to bring the Lynx to within four at the 6:39 mark.

Livsey kept grinding for the Lynx, chipping away at the Gents lead, with a big three and pair of jumpers that that knotted the contest at 47-47 with 4:47 to play. Rhodes worked to mount a comeback, but a big three from Kirkendoll at the 1:52 mark hindered the Lynx momentum, as they eventually fell to the Gents 65-57.

Livsey posted a career-high 23 points in the Lynx loss, with 10-16 shooting from the field. Livsey added eight rebounds and two assists in the outing. Miller got into double figures with his 11 points, with Van Hoeck adding six points and three rebounds.

Kirkendoll finished with 18 points and three assists for the Gents, with Demouchet adding 14 points and seven rebounds in the contest.

The Lynx forced 13 turnovers in the contest, while the rebounding matchup was neck and neck with each team pulling in 31 rebounds.

Rhodes will be back in action on Nov. 30 against Austin College in the final game of the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Classic.
