Rhodes swarmed the Yellow Jackets, defeating LeTourneau 83-53

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's basketball team posted a statement win against LeTourneau on Saturday, 83-53.
The Lynx improve to 2-1 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-2 on the year.

The Lynx got off to a hot start on their home court as they went the first five minutes without missing a shot. Geoff Livsey got the ball rolling as he laid the ball in at the 18:43 mark to give the Lynx their early lead, 2-0.

Head coach Mike DeGeorge's squad saw the next six shots fall for a 12-0 run down to the 15:47 mark with four three-pointers, two from Brennan Sullivan and two from Drew Miller in addition to an old-fashioned three point play by Miller., The Lynx defense held the Yellow jackets to single digits until the 13:07 mark forcing six turnovers.

The Lynx continued to build on their lead, pushing out to an 18 point advantage after a Tate Sledge three and a Geoff Livsey bucket made the count 34-16 with 7:29 to play in the half. The hot Lynx offense continued to widen the gap, with a three pointer by Luke Collins at the 2:05 mark giving Rhodes a 46-20 cushion.

The Lynx held on to their lead, handling the Yellow Jackets defense with ease, only turning the ball over seven times. Rhodes held on, taking a 46-27 lead into the half time.

At the break, Miller led all scorers with 13 points. He added six steals, five rebounds and four assists to his first half totals. Sullivan added 11 points, with a hot 3-3 from beyond the arc. Ryan Van Hoeck worked into the double digits as well by the half, with 11 points.

LeTourneau was led in scoring by Roozario Wiggins, who netted seven and Sam Talbert who notched six.

Rhodes held their opponents to 45.0 percent shooting from the field, and allowed 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. The Lynx fired a hot 62.1 percent themselves from the field, with a sweltering 70.0 percent from three point land. The Rhodes defense forced 15 turnovers in the half.

Rhodes continued their hot play in the second half, quickly building on their lead. After a pair of buckets from Sullivan and a Van Hoeck lay-in, the Lynx lead swelled to 24 with 12:45 to play, at 56-32. The sharp shooting Rhodes squad continued to smoother any momentum created by the Yellow Jackets.

After four straight Van Hoeck lay ups, the Lynx held tight to a 73-45 lead with 4:55 to play in the contest. The Rhodes reserves held on strong, and built on the Rhodes lead, closing out with a 30 point edge, bring home a 83-53 win.

The Yellow Jackets were led Shaquille Reed, who finished with 11 points. Josh Thornton and Wiggins each chipped in nine points apiece.

Van Hoeck finished with a game-high 20 points for the Lynx, with Sullivan and Miller each netting 16 points. Miller worked into a double-double with his 11 rebounds, adding six steals and four assists. Sullivan was hot from three point land, knocking down 4-5 shots beyond the arc.

Rhodes notched 57.9 percent shooting from the field and a 55.6 percent night from beyond the arc. The Lynx forced 22 turnovers, which they capitalized into 29 points. The Lynx post game was dominant, as Rhodes posted 44 points in the paint.
