Rhodes posts statement win over MacMurray, 71-50

CONWAY, Ark. – The Rhodes women's basketball team picked up another strong road win in Conway, Ark. against MacMurray College on Sunday, 71-50.
 
The Lynx improve to 2-0 on the year while the Highlanders fall to 0-2 to begin the season.
 
Coach Matt Dean's squad opened the contest with an early 6-0 run, fueled by a Dy'Nelle Todman lay-in and a pair of Symone Daniels buckets to take a 6-0 lead with 17:09 to play. Rhodes continued to build on its lead, mounting another run, this time a 19-0 streak, with a Sarah Johnson fastbreak layup capping the run at the 10:34 mark to give the Lynx a 25-2 advantage.
 
The game pace continued to favor the Lynx, as they widened the gap when a Rachel Cofield three and a Daniels layup pushed the Lynx lead to 37-15 at the 4:43 mark. MacMurray closed the half with a six point run, to make the count at the break 37-21 in favor of the Lynx.
 
In the first half, the Lynx posted 35.9 percent shooting from the field, knocking down four deep balls. Daniels led the way with eight points and six rebounds, with Isabelle Tehrani adding six first half points to go with five rebounds. The Lynx held the Highlanders to just 18.5 percent shooting from the field in the half.
 
Rhodes continued to pour on the offensive output in the second half, with Todman opening the half with a bucket in the paint to post a 39-21 lead at the 18:44 mark. After a Blaire Smith three at the 14:40 mark, the Lynx edged their lead out to 18 at 46-28. MacMurray pushed a 12-0 run by the 10:25 mark after a Kaydee Carmody jumper made the count 46-40 in favor of the Lynx.
 
Rhodes worked to build on the gap, adding seven consecutive points after a pair of Daniels' layups and a three from the forward, to take a 53-40 lead at the 8:35 mark. The Lynx kept their distance, matching the opponents, and building on their lead. After a Madison Butler three at the 5:50 mark, the Rhodes lead swelled to 20 points at 62-42. Rhodes held on, closing out the contest with an Erin Deery three and the 71-50 victory.
 
Daniels led all scored with 22 points, and was one rebound shy for the second consecutive game of a double-double at nine. A host of Lynx added six points to the Rhodes total, including Kramer, Tehrani, and Butler. Kramer also added nine rebounds in the outing, and Johnson dished out eight assists in the contest.
 
The Highlanders were led by Emily Riddle in scoring, who posted 11 points. Megan Duisen added nine points and 10 rebounds to MacMurray's total.
 
Rhodes will host the University of Texas at Tyler on Nov. 21 in their home season opener. The last time the Lynx faced the Patriots was in the second round of the NCAA tournament in Memphis a year ago.
