JACKSON, Miss. – The Rhodes women's soccer team posted a decisive win on Saturday against Millsaps College to close out the regular season, 5-0.
The Lynx finish the 2014 regular season with a record of 10-4-2, and 5-1-1 in Southern Athletic Association action. The Majors fall to 2-12-1 on the year and 0-7 in league play.
The Rhodes offense showed up big in the contest, with
Hannah Selner finishing a shot through the back post off a set up pass from
Sarah Rostamo in the ninth minute. Selner added another goal in the 25th minute when she beat the Millsaps net minder for the easy score.
Hope Elliott got into the scoring column, finishing a
Larissa Nash pass from 18 yards out to give Rhodes a 3-0 lead in the 31st minute.
In the second half, the Lynx offense continued to be dominant, with Selner heading in a goal in 60th minute from an
Elizabeth Wayda pass to give Rhodes a 4-0 edge. The final Lynx goal came in the 83rd minute when Tomlin netted her second score from a
Rachel Coyle set up pass.
Anna Maldonado got the start for the Lynx, starring in all 90 minutes of the contest, en route to the shutout. While in goal, the keeper snagged five saves for Rhodes.
The Lynx outmatched the Majors in columns other than the scoring, with 32 shots to the opponents 10. Rhodes was also awarded more corner kicks by a tally of 7-2.
Rhodes will look forward to the SAA Conference Tournament hosted by Centre College on Nov. 7-9.
