MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes field hockey team fell in a tough physical battle on Saturday to conference foes Centre College, 1-0.
The Lynx fall to 6-2 on the year and pick up their first conference loss, moving to 2-1. The Colonels improve to 8-3 on the season and 4-0 in league play.
The Rhodes defense held strong in the first half, with neither team netting a goal in the opening 35 minutes of play.
In the second half the Lynx defense again held strong until the 57th minute when Erin Mays found the back of the cage for Centre, giving the Colonels the 1-0 advantage. The Rhodes offense got close on several occasions but couldn't convert, as they fell 1-0.
Rhodes outperformed the Colonels in several categories including out shooting Centre 9-4 and taking more penalty corners by a count of 14-4.
The Lynx will look to bounce back on Sunday, Oct. 5 as they host conference opponents Transylvania University at noon.
