Rhodes rally falls short, dropping to Berry 3-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes volleyball team fell in a hard fought three-game match the Berry College on Friday night in Southern Athletic Association play, 3-0.
 
The Lynx drop to 4-12 on the season and 0-5 in league play, while the Vikings improve to 10-9 over all and 5-1 in the SAA.
 
The first set as a close fight, with the Lynx sustaining a few hot streaks. Elasha Williams notched four kills with Caryn Hawkins picking up four digs and five assists. The Lynx ultimately fell, 25-14 in the opening set.
 
The Lynx continued to fight, pulling to a 5-5 tie early in the set. After falling behind, Rhodes won four straight points to power within three at 15-12. The Lynx couldn't maintain their momentum as the Vikings took the set 25-18.  In the second set Berry out swung the Lynx by a narrow margin, recording 16 kills to the Lynx 12.
 
Rhodes used their strong second set to start the third, pulling within one at 7-6. Rhodes continued to fight, pushing to within two at 23-21. The Rhodes charge eventually fell short, as Berry took the third set 25-21 and the match.
 
Williams led the team, offensively and in defense finishing with 17 kills and 13 digs in the contest. Mollie Newbern added six kills to the total. Catherine Grimes dished out 14 assists, and picked up 12 digs. Hawkins chipping in 11 assists on the night.
 
The Lynx will be back on the court on Saturday, Oct. 4 against Oglethorpe University at 2 p.m.
