BERRY, Ga. – The Rhodes men's soccer team fought to its third double overtime tie of the season on Sunday against Berry College, 1-1.
The Lynx are now 6-6-3 on the year and 3-1-2 in conference play, while the Vikings are 8-6-1 in 2014 and 2-3-1 in league action.
The Vikings struck early, as Daniel Shaw finished an Alex Rotoloni pass to take the 1-0 lead in the third minute.
The Rhodes defense perked up and held off the Vikings for the remainder of the half, going into the break trailing 1-0.
In the second half, the battle ensued with the Lynx offense on the edge of scoring while the Rhodes defense continued their stout defense, holding off Berry's attacks.
The Lynx hard work paid off, when
Harrison Leeson snuck a shot into the lower left corner of the goal from a
Gabe Laurence pass in the 88th minute to knot the game at 1-1.
After the Leeson goal forced overtime, the Lynx held off the impeding Vikings attack, but struggled on the offensive end through the duration of two overtime periods.
Riley Sheen was strong in goal for the Lynx for all 110 minutes of play, where he grabbed two saves.
The game was also evenly matched in statistical categories outside of the scoring column, with Rhodes edging the Vikings in shots, 16-15 and also winning more corner kick attempts, by a count of 4-3.
Rhodes will be back in action on Nov. 1 when they wrap up the regular season at Millsaps College.
