ATLANTA, Ga. – The Rhodes women's soccer team won their fourth straight contest on Friday, downing Oglethorpe University, 4-0.
The Lynx improve to 9-3-2 on the season and 4-0-1 in league play while the Stormy Petrels fall to 4-9 and 1-4 in Southern Athletic Association action.
Rhodes went to work right away, when
Elizabeth Wayda connected on a
Hannah Selner set up in a two-on-one break away to push ahead 1-0 in the opening 10 minutes. The Lynx would take the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half of action, the Lynx did not let up, scoring three more goals on the Petrels.
Angie Hurlow netted her fourth goal of the season at the 49 minute mark, again off a
Hannah Selner pass. Just four minutes later, Wayda scored her second goal of the contest, her third of the season, as Hurlow passed a ball through the defense to set up the score.
The final goal of the contest came in the 65th minute when first-year
Ellie Valega netted a
Nicolette Glidden set up to give Rhodes a 4-0 lead. The Lynx defense held on for the shutout, their seventh shutout of the season.
Anna Maldonado was stout in goal for the Lynx, playing all 90 minutes and grabbing two saves, while earning the first shutout of her collegiate career.
Rhodes will continue their Georgia road trip as they travel to Berry College on Oct. 26.
