Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rhodes hangs on to beat Sewanee, 2-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes men's soccer team hung on in a close battle on Friday, beating Southern Athletic Association foes Sewanee, 2-1.

Rhodes improves to 6-5-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play, while the Tigers fall to 4-7-1 on the year and 1-1-1 in the league.

Rhodes got things started in the 13th minute when Paul Burdette buried a goal, unassisted to give the Lynx the 1-0 lead. Matt McKeand pushed the Lynx up to 2-0, when he headed in a rebound in the 31st minute. The Lynx took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

Sewanee came out of the break swinging and scored just two minutes into the second half. The Lynx defense fought to stave off the charging Tigers, and held on for the 2-1 win.

The Lynx worked hard to outplay the Tigers in categories other than scoring, with a 19-14 advantage in shots and 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Rhodes net minder Riley Sheen played a tough 90 minutes for the Lynx, staving off six shots for the win.

Rhodes will be back on the field on Oct. 19 as they host Centre College. Oct. 19 will also serve as senior day, where the Lynx five seniors will be honored in a ceremony held prior to the game.
