MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes women's field hockey posted a statement win in their last regular season home game of the season against Roanoke College, 5-1.
The Lynx improve to 9-2 on the year while the Maroons fall to 7-8 in 2014.
Rhodes saw the Maroons post the first goal in the 18th minute, and take a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.
But in the second half, it didn't take the Lynx long to get fired up as just 44 seconds into the half,
Kate Taylor found the back of the cage to even the score at 1-1. In the 41st minute it was Taylor again, this time setting up a
Shauni Cowan goal to give the Lynx the 2-1 lead.
In the 58th minute Rhodes
Maddie Smith tacked on an insurance goal, burying a
McKenna Wilson pass for the Lynx 3-1 lead.
Erin Best found the back of the cage just five minutes later, putting away a
Grace Whelan set up to take the 4-1 lead. The Lynx final goal came in the waning minutes of the contest as
Shauni Cowan netted another score, this time off a
Meaghan Fogarty pass. The Lynx would hold on for the 5-1 win.
Rhodes outplayed their opponents in every category, including outshooting the Maroons 27-5, and taking more corner opportunities by a tally of 18-3.

Erin Bailey had a sound day in the cage for the Lynx, playing all 70 minutes and snagging four saves.
The Lynx will hit the road for their next contest in Standish, Maine where they will face off against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Oct. 19.
