MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Rhodes volleyball team dropped a close conference match on Sunday, falling to Birmingham Southern College 3-1.
Rhodes falls to 4-16 on the year and 0-9 in league play while the Panthers improve to 17-7 overall and 8-3 in the Southern Athletic Association.
The Lynx got off to a slow start, dropping the first set 25-4. The Lynx fought back, falling in the second set 25-17. Rhodes used its growing momentum from the second set and took a lead they would never relinquish in the third set, taking the 25-15 win. Rhodes couldn't hold on and fell in the fourth 25-18.
Elasha Williams continued to lead the Lynx offense, with 10 kills on the day.
Catherine Grimes added eight kills, followed by six from
Mollie Newbern.
Caryn Hawkins and Grimes each dished out 13 assists a piece in the outing.
The Lynx defense was stout, with
Maraia Tremarelli sprawling for a game-high 23 digs, followed by Williams who had 21 digs. Newbern and Williams also picked up three aces each in the match.
Rhodes will be back in action on Oct. 18 when they travel to Berry College.
