TYLER, Texas - Rhodes volleyball dropped a match to Mary Hardin-Baylor 3-0 and won in three games against Howard Payne on Friday in the opening round of the Univeristy of Texas-Tyler tournament.
The Lynx started off with a match against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders. Rhodes fell in that match in straight sets to the scores 25-12, 25-17, 25-17. With that loss the lynx fell to 0-5, while UMHB improved to 5-1.
Â
"They were a strong team," said assistant coach Cameron Andrew. "After the first set, however, we really battled and made the work for it. I think the last bit of that match was the best we've played this year."
Â
The Lynx collected their first win of the season in the next match, sweeping the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets in straight sets to the scores 25-14, 25-16, 25-18. The yellow jackets, previously undefeated, fell to 5-1, while the lynx improved their record to 1-5.Â
Â
"Feels great to get the first one under our belt," said head coach Kait Harris. "We had all the cylinders firing and it was great to see all the hard work in practice paying off. I'm really looking forward to getting back after it tomorrow"
Â
The win is Coach Harris' first collegiate victory as a head coach.
Â
Rhodes will compete in two sets tomorrow, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. against East Texas Baptist University and 12 p.m. against University of Texas at Tyler.
