MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes volleyball earned its third conference win as they toppled Oglethorpe University in conference play, 3-2 on Saturday.
The win takes the Lynx to 4-12 and 3-2 in SAA play. The Petrels fall to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in their conference schedule.
The Lynx came out a bit slow in the first set, with several lead changes and ties. Rhodes would eventually fall 25-22.
Rhodes meant business in the second set, quickly jumping out to a 3-0 lead off a pair of kills from Alexis Krall and Michelle Quina. The Lynx continued to hold tight to their lead, leading by six when a kill by Lauren Johnson gave them a 14-8 advantage. Rhodes continued to take care of business building on their largest lead and closing out the set on a Stephanie Renner kill 25-12.
The third set was a much closer battle with the Lynx never leading by more than three points. The action continued back and forth before the Lynx closed the door off a set of Krall kills making it 25-22.
Rhodes had a hard time containing Oglethorpe in the fourth set as the teams faced a plethora of back and forth action. The game finished beyond the 25 point limit at 31-29 Petrels.
The deciding set was all Rhodes as the Lynx kept the Petrels to just six points, with Grimes hammering home the game winning kill to make it 15-6.
Michelle Quina led all setters in assist with an outstanding 50 assists.
Krall swung for the most kills, racking up 21 in the game. Renner and Grimes added 16 apiece with Quina contributing seven kills.
Maraia Tremarelli sprawled for 32 digs in the contest, with Grimes and Tasha Heller adding 15 each.
The Lynx will endure a two game road-stretch as they travel to Danville to face Centre College on Oct. 10 and Sewanee on Oct. 6.
