BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Rhodes volleyball fell 3-2 in a close conference match to Birmingham Southern on Saturday.
 
The loss takes the Lynx to 2-9 on the year and 1-1 in conference play, while the Panthers move to 10-1 and 1-1 in the SAA.
 
The five set match proved to be a tight battle as lost no set by more than six points. The Lynx fell the first set, 25-23 but took the next two sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-18. Rhodes couldn't close out in the fourth set, and fell 25-19 before ultimately falling in the fifth set 15-13.
 
Catherine Grimes led all attackers with 18 kills. Alexis Krall added 15 kills while Mollie Newbern contributed nine.
 
Michelle Quina handed out a game high 37 assists. Maraia Tremarelli led the way in the digs category with 29 total on the day. Quina added 17 digs herself, with Grimes contributing 12.
 
Rhodes will continue their SAA road trip as they visit Millsaps College for a match on Sunday Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
