Rhodes falls in two close matches in Rhodes Invitational to Austin and UT Tyler

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes volleyball dropped two matches on Sunday in the Rhodes Invitational to Austin (3-2) and the University of Texas at Tyler (3-0)
 
Rhodes volleyball fell just short of a huge comeback effort against Austin College Sunday in a five set match 3-2.
 
The Lynx move to 2-10 for the 2013 season, while the Roos' win takes them to 8-5 and UT Tyler moves to 9-2.
 
Rhodes came out and dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-14 before charging back to take the next two sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-14. The final game was a close, back and forth battle with the Lynx falling 15-13.
 
The Lynx were led in assists by Michelle Quina, who snagged 47 assits.
 
Alexis Krall hammered home the most kills for Rhodes with a total of 19. Catherine Grimes added 14 kills of her own, while also earning 15 digs.
 
Maraia Tremarelli led all passers with 27 digs, with Quina and Leah Washburn adding 12 each.
 
Rhodes had a total of 9 blocks, including four from Krall three from Alex Overstreet, Grimes and Stephanie Renner.
                                                                
In the Lynx match up with UT Tyler, Rhodes was overpowered by the Patriots in three straight sets.
 
The first set, a close back and forth battle, ended 25-23. The Lynx ran out of gas falling in the next two matches with scores of 25-12 and 25-15.
 
Krall led all hitters with 14 kills, while Renner added seven and grimes contributed six.
 
Quina tallied up 31 total assists in the match, while Tremarelli sprawled for 14 digs, and Grimes dug up 13 balls for the Lynx.
 
Rhodes will hit the road for their next two matches, both SAA conference games. Their first stop will be at Birmingham Southern College on Sept. 21 at 3 p.m. followed by a trip to Millsaps College on Sept 22 at 1 p.m.
