MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Rhodes College dropped its second set of the day against Washington and Lee University by a score of 3-0 on Friday in the Maryville Invitational.
The loss moves the Lynx back to 0-2 to start the season while the Generals move to 2-0 to start the year.
The Lynx had their hands full facing the reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Champions and forced the generals to earn their win falling by margins of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-14
After falling behind 17-10 in the first set Rhodes battled all the way back only to fall just short in the end with a score of 25-22.
With the second set the Lynx came out stronger and took a 15-11 lead before the Generals got back into their groove, taking the second set 25-21. After two tough matches the Lynx seemed to run out of gas toward the end of the third set falling 25-14.
"Even though we didn't get the end result we wanted we battled all day," said assistant coach Cameron Andrew. "We did a lot of good things and also found some places we need to work on. We have a good foundation to build on going forward."
Setters Michelle Quina and Allie Limmer dished out 15 and 11 sets respectively to pace the lynx attack. Senior opposite Lexie Krall led the Rhodes offense with nine kills on a .286 attack percentage. Sophomore libero Tasha Heller turned up another solid defensive effort with 20 digs.
The Lynx are back on the court tomorrow Aug. 31 for two more matches against Carroll College at 11 a.m. and face the tournament host Maryville College at 5 p.m.
