MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes College fell to the No. 6 ranked Washington University in Saint Louis 7-0 on Friday in the opening round of the Rhodes College Classic.
 
The loss moves the Lynx back to 0-1 on the season and makes the Bears record 1-0 to start the year.
 
Washington University took an early lead 12 minutes in when Olivia Lillegraven scored unassisted. The Bears connected again 16 minutes later when Anna Zambricki found the back of the net after a Katie Chandler assist. Lauren Steimle scored off a rebound to make the halftime score 3-0 for Washington University.
 
The Bears opened things up in the second half scoring four unanswered goals to make the final tally 7-0.
 
Two keepers got time for the Lynx, with Allison Cowling snagging two saves in her 35 minutes while Chandler Kuhlman grabbed four saves in 55 minutes. Rhodes College had a total of six saves compared to four saves made by the Bears net minder Amy French.
 
Rhodes took a total of eight shots in the contest, with 50 percent being on goal. Both the Lynx and the Bears took two corner kicks a piece.
 
Rhodes will face Principia College in the second game of the Rhodes Classic on Aug. 31 at 3 p.m.
