BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A pair of goals by
Jason Crutcher and
Evan Wladis propelled Rhodes men's soccer over Emory and Henry College 6-0 on Friday in the opening round of the Birmingham Southern Invitational.
The win starts the Lynx season off with a 1-0 record while Emory and Henry fall back to 0-1 on the year.
Rhodes opened the contest at the 18:54 mark with a goal from Crutcher off a
Jonathan Fisher assist. Crutcher connected again ten minutes later unassisted to take the Lynx into the half with a 2-0 lead.
Rhodes ripped the game wide open when Wladis came out in the opening two minutes of the second half and connected off another Fisher assist making it 3-0. Wladis got his second goal ten minutes later when he found the back of the net off a
Paul Burdette pass.
Alec Rhodes connected for the Lynx in the 68th minute off a
Eric Ly pass. Ly and Rhodes reversed roles for the final goal of the contest that came in at the 78 minute mark.
The Lynx out shot Emory and Henry by a margin of 23-9 and doubled the number of corner kicks with an 8-4 margin.
Riley Sheen snagged four saves while in the net for Rhodes and played all 90 minutes.
The Lynx will be back in action on Sunday Sept. 1 in the second game of the Birmingham Classic when they take on Methodist University at 11 a.m.
