Birmingham, Ala. – Rhodes soccer falls just short in match up with Methodist 3-2 in the final round of the Birmingham Southern Classic on Sunday.
The loss puts the Lynx at 1-1 on the season while Methodist moves to 1-1.
The Monarchs pulled ahead early after scoring two goals off corner kicks that ended in headers by Shaen MacDonald and Eirik Nordseth, sending the Lynx into the half trailing 2-0.
In the second half Methodist found the back of the net off an Eric McFinnis connection making the score 3-0 in the 52nd minute. Rhodes answered with two goals from the foot of Jason Crutcher in the 56th amd 62nd minutes, but the charge wasn't enough to overcome the early Methodist scores.
Riley Sheen snagged eight saves in the net for the Lynx, playing all 90 minutes.
Rhodes was outshot by a total of 18-13 and fell just short in the corners category 7-5.
The Lynx will be back in action in their home opener, the Greg Volgas Memorial tournament, Sept. 7 against the University of Dallas at 2 p.m.
