“I'm really excited about the group of freshmen that we have added to the program. We were able to address some of our needs and also strengthened the team in other areas. I'm really excited for another chapter in Rhodes Soccer, and the future of the program. We took another positive step with this recruiting class.” Said Coach Vari
Nicolette Glidden: Played at Joel Barlow High School for Coach Neil Phillips, and played club for Yankee United FC. Coach Vari on Glidden: “Nicolette is a crafty midfielder/forward that can cause trouble on the dribble. I think she's a great fit for our program and I'm excited to see what she can do for us.”
Elise Grisoni: Played at Lausanne Collegiate School for Spencer Lynch, and the Purple Rain club here in Memphis. Elise was voted “Best Offender” from 2009-2011, and 2011 Best of Preps. Coach Vari on Grisoni: “Elise came to our camp this year and I was really impressed with her work rate. She's the ultimate competitor and refuses to give up. She's also very versatile and can play in several different roles for us.”
Hannah Hernandez: Played at Johns Creek High School for Theo Economos and Ivo Ilarionaov, and for the Alpharetta Ambush. Hannah was a two year captain and won the coach's award in 2011 and 2012. Coach Vari on Hernandez: “Hannah is another product of a camp that we offer and came in with a calmness that is years beyond her age. She does very well to get out of tight spaces, and has solid field vision.”
Angie Hurlow: Played at Lausanne Collegiate School for Spencer Lynch, and the Purple Rain club here in Memphis. Angie received All-District accolades in 2012. Coach Vari on Hurlow: “Angie has good size and is deceptively quick. She has a great technical proficiency and can cause trouble on the dribble.”
Kaeli Rives: Played at Memorial High School for Lindley Amarantos and for Albion FC. Coach Vari on Rives: “Kaeli is a strong player and tough on the tackle. She's very physical and a competitor. She can also do the finer technical aspects of the game that we require out of our defenders.”
Kelsey Sweeney: Played for the Dallas Sting club as a duel roster player for the ECNL team. Kelsey missed a large portion of her junior season due to a knee injury. Coach Vari on Sweeney: “Kelsey has great size to hear and has been battling with a knee injury. I think now that she's finally fully healthy, I think we will see her bloom in our program. She's very good technically, and reads the play well.”
Sarah Wachter: Played at Villa Duchesne Oak Hill School for Tim Twellman, and the St. Louis Scott Gallagher ECNL program. Coach Vari on Wachter: “Sarah is super athlete and uses that to her strength as an outside back. She attacks really well out of the back and is exactly what we are looking for. I think her transition into our program will be a seamless one. She's another girl in this class with a superior work rate.”
Maria Woodrow: Played at Davidson Day School for Chad Metzler, and Lake Norman Eclipse club. Maria was part of back-to-back state championships in 2011 and 2012. Coach Vari on Woodrow: “we caught onto Maria late in the game, but I've heard from some quality sources that she can be a good addition to our program. I'm excited to get her into our system and see how she adapts. Her mind set, work rate, and technical skill will help her fit into our program.”
The Lynx begin the 2013 season at home against national powerhouse Washington University in St. Louis on August 30
th at 4pm.
