The Rhodes Baseball team won both games on Saturday to advance to the championship game of the first round of the 2013 SAA tournament. Rhodes defeated Centre 6-3 in the first game and then advenged Friday's loss, with a 6-3 victory over Berry. Rhodes will need to defeat Birmingham-Southern twice on Sunday to advance to the second round of the tournament.
In the first game, senior RHP
Matt Burnick threw a complete game for the Lynx. Burnick, who struggled early in the ballgame, settled down and held Centre scorelesss from the 3rd inning till the bottom of the 9th. Burnick ended the day throwing 9 innings, scattering 12 hits, 3 runs, walked 1 and struck out 3. The Lynx offense was once again led by junior RF
Patrick Kilkenny, who was 2-4 with a double, and 2 RBIs. Sophomore 3B
Josh Keen was 2-3 with a double, run scored, drove in a run, walked once, and stole a base. Senior C Matt Killary was 2-4 with a triple, run scored, drove in a run, and walked once. Junior 2B
Jordan Infield was 1-2 with 2 runs scored, walked once, got hit by a pitch and stole 3 bases.
In the second game, freshman LHP
Blake Glauben took the mound for the Lynx, working the first 5+ innings before turning the ball over to the Lynx bullpen. Glauben scattered 4 hits, 2 runs, 5 walks, and struck out 3 in his 5 innings of work. With the bases loaded and no one out in the top of the sixth, Glauben handed the ball over to junior LHP
Max Halasz. Halasz went on to work the next 2.1 innings allowing only two hits. Senior RHP
Stuart Voges took the ball from Halasz with one out in the top of the 8th and made quick work of the Viking threat. Sophomore RHP
Thomas Beamish finished off the game for the Lynx allowing one run and struck out one in his lone inning of work. The Lynx offense was led by senior SS
Lynden Pindling who was 2-4 with 4 runs scored and stole 2 bases. Sophomore 3B
Josh Keen was 1-2 with a run scored, walked once, and stole a base. Junior RF
Patrick Kilkenny was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and walked once. Red-shirt sophomore
Justin Genter was 2-3 with a run scored. Senior C Matt Killary was 1-4 with 2 RBIs.
