The Rhodes Lynx Men's Tennis team began the day playing Wheaton College on Thursday morning. Though losing both the number one and two doubles positions, number three was able to clench a win. The men continued to win all the single matches. Upperclassmen Sanders Phelps and Colin Perry won their matches in straight sets. The Lynx played until decision and the final score wa 7-2. At 3 PM, they played Ithaca College, which was more difficult. In doubles, Matthew Plumley and Eliot Blatt defeated their opponents 8-4 in a highly competitive match. Blatt then continued to win his singles match, clenching the win for the men just after Graham Sowden won in the number five spot.
The women played Ithaca College Thursday afternoon. They had a rocky start during all of the singles matches; yet, it wasn't enough and they lost 5/6 singles matches. Elyse Smith kept up her endurance and endured a two and a half hour match to win 6-4, 7-6 and 8-6 in the tiebreaker. After refocusing, the women won two of three of the doubles matches. Courtney Hornsby and Kristal Skrmetta easily defeated Siegal and Fishback of Ithaca 8-1. Friday is the last day of Spring Break Tennis in Hilton Head, where both the men and women will play Dickinson College at 8:30 AM.
