Rhodes closes 2013 season with 2-0 loss to Berry

CONWAY, Ark. – Rhodes soccer closes out the 2013 season with a 2-0 loss to Berry College in the Southern Athletic Association Conference Tournament.

Rhodes ends the season with a 6-10-2 overall record while the Vikings advance to the second round of the tournament with a 10-5-3 record.

Rhodes fell behind early when Berry's Caleb Lucas scored the opening goal at the 7 minute mark off a Josh Francher assist. The Lynx would go into the halftime break with the 1-0 deficit.

Rhodes defense held strong for the second half until the Vikings struck again at the 80 minute mark when Alex Rotoloni connected unassisted.

" Lucas hit a great shot to put them up but I was proud of our guys as we went right down the field and  answered with a couple of chances inside Berry's penalty area," said head coach Andy Marcinko. "They are a very good team and we were able to put them on their heels several times with chances to tie the game. It was a good team effort that just came up short."

Rhodes' Riley Sheen earned all 90 minutes of play in the contest while earning five saves in the outing.

The Lynx were outshot by a margin of 12-6 but each team was awarded one corner kick in the match.

Rhodes' Eric Ly was named to the All-Tournament team for the 2013 SAA Tournament.
