MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes Volleyball went 1-1 in the Rhodes Classic, falling to Martin Methodist 4-1 and defeating Mississippi College 3-2
The games move Rhodes to 10-19. Martin Methodist moved to 6-24 and Mississippi College fell to 8-21.
Rhodes fell in the first game to Marin Methodist in a tight contest that needed all five sets to declare a winner. The Lynx lost the first set, 29-27 but won the next set 25-23. The third set again needed extra points to find a winner, with Martin Methodist coming out on top, 27-25. Rhodes claimed the fourth set in dominant fashion, 25-16 before falling in the final set 15-11.
Rhodes was led in offense by Michelle Qunia who handed out 54 assists. The senior also had one service ace and four digs.
Alexis Krall led all attackers in kills with 21.
Stephanie Renner and
Mollie Newbern each added 13 kills a piece with
Lauren Wenzel contributing 10.
Tasha Heller led in defense with 21 digs.
Leah Washburn added 11 pick-ups in the loss.
In the Lynx' match against Mississippi College the Lynx took it down to the wire again, pulling out a five game win, 3-2.
Rhodes won the first set by a slim margin of 25-23 and dropped the next set 25-20. The Lynx fought back, taking the third set with a commanding 25-16 score. Rhodes was narrowly edged out of the fourth set, 26-24 before taking complete control of the final set, winning 15-5.
Rhodes was led in assists by Quina, who tallied up 45.
The Lynx attackers were led by Newbern who swung for 15 kills. Krall added 12 kills whole Washburn contributed 10 and Renner eight.
Heller dug up a game high 33 balls, while
Dani Plata added 12 digs and Washburn contributed 17.
Rhodes will prepare for the SAA tournament, set to take place in Rome, Ga. at Berry College on Nov. 8. The Lynx will face off against Hendrix College in the first round.
