MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Rhodes field hockey defeated Sewanee by a score of 4-0 on Saturday to close out the Lynx' home season.
Rhodes improves to a 9-7 overall record and a 6-2 record in conference play. Sewanee drops to 7-7 on the year and 2-5 in conference play.
The Lynx controlled the contest from the get go, scoring first at the four minute mark.
Christina DiFelice beat the goal keeper in the box to send home an
Evy Royther assist, and grab the early 1-0 lead. Rhodes'
McKenna Wilson would score back-to-back goals within four minutes of each other and she scored unassisted at the 11th and 15th minute. Rhodes would take their 3-0 lead into the half.
Corrine Palmer connected for the last Lynx goal with just four minutes left in play as she sent home a loose ball in a scramble in front of the cage.
The Lynx out-hustled their opponents in the shooting column, taking 26 shots to the Tigers 14. The race for corners was tight battle as both squads were awarded 11 corner attempts.
Rhodes saw
Erin Bailey earn 70 minutes as net minder, grabbing five saves.
Rhodes will hit the road for their next two contests as they wrap up their regular season and head to Louisville, Ky. for non-conference play. The Lynx will face Oberlin College in a neutral site game on Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. followed by a match-up with Division II Bellarmine University at 4 p.m.
