Rhodes has rocky opening against No. 11 Bears

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Rhodes fell to the No. 11 ranked Washington University in St. Louis, 90-60 on Saturday to begin the 2013 season.
 
The loss moves the Lynx to 0-1 on the season while the Bears advance to a 1-0 start.
 
Rhodes couldn't outman the well-rounded Wash U. as they outscored the Lynx 25-5 to open the first half. Rhodes, forced to play catch-up went on a seven point run, fueled by a Tate Sledge lay-up to fight back to 37-19. Rhodes would cut the Bears lead to 56-31 on a Ryan Van Hoeck layup to end the first half.
 
The Lynx found their competitive edge in the second half as they chipped away at the Wash U. lead throughout the second half. Rhodes showed signs of life, closing out the contest with a 10-3 run, but their efforts were too late to challenge the Bears. The final score, 90-60 in favor of Wash U.
 
The Bear's Chris Klimek led all scorers in the contest with 16 points. Matt Palucki added 14 bears points, and Alan Aboona threw in 12 points.
 
Rhodes offensive efforts were led by Michael Gallagher who scored 12 points in the Lynx' first outing. Johnny Dunavant, Van Hoeck and Dylan Bliss all added eight points to Rhodes total. Matt Wagner hit the boards for the Lynx, grabbing nine rebounds.
 
Rhodes had a big showing from its reserve squad, with 32 points coming from the bench. The Lynx shot an even 40 percent from the field in the game (16-40), and scored 20 points in the paint.
 
Rhodes will wrap up their St. Louis stint on Sunday Nov. 17 when they face Fontbonne University at 4 p.m.
