Rhodes struggles against Centre, falling 2-1

DANVILLE, Ky. – Rhodes field hockey fell in a tight match 2-1 at Centre on Sunday in Southern Athletic Association action.
 
The loss puts the Lynx at 4-7 on the year and 4-2 in conference play. Centre advances to 10-1 overall and moves forward with a spotless 6-0 record in conference.
 
Rhodes spent the game playing catch up as Centre scored their first goal in the in the first minute of play when Alexis Hebert finished a Chelsea Klein pass to make the score 1-0. The Colonels found the back of the cage again with the same chemistry as Hebert buried a Klein pass. Rhodes would take the 2-0 deficit into the halftime break.
 
The Lynx' Christina DiFelice cut the Colonel lead to one with her goal in the 54th minute when she converted an Erin Best set up into the Lynx first goal. The late charge wasn't enough as Rhodes fell by a final score of 2-1.
 
The Lynx saw two different goal keepers earn minutes as Kelly Whelan played the first 35 minutes. Erin Bailey took over in the cage for the second half and grabbed two saves while in the net.
 
The Lynx were awarded more corner attempts by a count of 10-7, but saw the Colonels take more shots by a tally of 26-10.
 
Rhodes will finish their stretch of road games next weekend as they travel to Washington and Lee on Oct. 12 to face the Generals at 12 p.m. The Lynx will also see two more games next weekend while in Lexington, Va. when they play Roanoke College and Eastern Mennonite in Neutral site games on Oct. 13 and 14 respectively.
