Rhodes bests Washington and Lee, 3-2 earning Coach Wells her 100th career win

LEXINGTON, Va. – Rhodes field hockey used a strong first half to overcome Washington and Lee on Saturday, 3-2 and earn Coach Jane Wells her 100th career victory.

The Lynx advance to a 5-7 record while the Generals fall to 2-11 on the season.

Rhodes saw Washington and Lee score the first goal in the 11th minute when Camilla Davis finished a rebound into the cage. The Lynx would go on a three point run to finish out the first half. Julie Hertzman scored at the 16 minute mark finishing a Christina DiFelice pass six yards out from the cage. Just three minutes later, DiFelice would cash in a goal of her own, this time putting away a Kat Simpson dish five yards off the goal. Erin Best would get the final goal of the half when Rhodes took advantage of a penalty corner, and she converted an Evy Royther pass to make the halftime count 3-1.

The second half proved to be a stalemate, until a Generals' shot found its way into the Rhodes cage at the 62 minute mark. The Washington and Lee team goal would be the last score of the contest, as the Lynx defense held on for the 3-2 win.

Erin Bailey earned all 70 minutes for Rhodes, snagging six saves on the day.

The Lynx were out shot in the contest 14-11 and also fell behind in the corner count, 11-4.

Rhodes will remain in Virginia for a game on Sunday Oct. 13 against Roanoke in a neutral site contest.
