Evy Royther scored both goals today in the Lynx 2-1 OT win over Johns Hopkins at Centre. Rhodes got the win in dramatic fashion scoring the game tying goal with just 30 seconds to play in regulation. The Lynx (1-1) will take on regional rival DePauw (1-1) on Saturday at 1 pm at MICDS in St. Louis, MO.
After dominating the second half the Lynx finally found the back of the cage with just 30 seconds to play in regulation to send the game into overtime. The equalizer was scored by freshman
Evy Royther, her first collegiate goal and the Lynx first of the season, on a feed from senior captain
Sarah Ferguson on a penalty corner opportunity.
Just five minutes into overtime play Rhodes won the match on a second Royther goal off a fast break feed from sophomore
Kat Simpson. Rhodes struggled to score despite controlling play much of the game, the Lynx were unable to convert on their first 15 penalty corner opportunities.
The Lynx held a 17-8 advantage in penalty corner opportunities and a 16-9 advantage in shots. Rhodes benefited from the steady play of
Regan McLaughlin, Sam Anscher, and first year player Jordan in the backfield while
Sarah Ferguson and
Kate Taylor anchored the team's midfield play.
Rhodes will take on regional rival DePauw on Saturday. The game is set for a 1 pm start at MICDS in St. Louis, MO.
