DANVILLE, Ky.- The Lynx lost their 2012 season opener 2-0 to #17 ranked Christopher Newport University at a neutral site game at Centre College.  The Captains controlled much of the first half earning twelve penalty corners and an edge in shots but were unable to find the back of the cage.  Strong defensive efforts from juniors Sam Anscher and Regan McLaughlin propelled the Rhodes defensive unit, helping hold CNU to a scoreless first half.  Sophomore Corrinne Palmer and junior Julia Price also had stand-out performances in the backfield.

The first goal of the game came just under four minutes into the second half off the stick of CNU's Caitlin Cahill on a penalty corner oppotunity.  This jumpstarted the Lynx offense for the remainder of the game playing a more even second half.  Relying on the skills of several talented newcomers and returners Katie Faucher and Kat Simpson, Rhodes earned five penalty corners and multiple scoring opportunities but were unable to put one in the back of the cage.

With depth in the midfield, the Lynx were able to combine the experience of senior Sarah Ferguson and Kate Taylor with freshmen Mary Rose Hazel and Jordan Kugler.  In the closest match-up between these two squads since 2005, Rhodes was able to maintain a strong performance throughout the 70 minutes of play.  Goalkeeper Jordan Robinson had an excellent performance in cage, with fifteen saves in regulation.   The Captains held a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 19-7 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.

The Lynx (0-1) return to action tomorrow afternoon against Johns Hopkins (1-0) at neutral site Centre College, game time is set for 2:00 pm.
