FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Memphis, TN-The 2012 Rhodes football season will be one of change as the Lynx begin play in the newly formed Southern Athletic Association. The season will see Rhodes play five home games at the newly renovated Fargason Field including the season opener on September 8
th against traditional rival Washington University.
The next week will begin a new rivalry as Claremont Mudd Scripps will come to Memphis. The matchup between the Lynx and the Stags will feature several interesting subplots as it will not only feature a battle between second year head coaches
Dan Gritti and Kyle Sweeney who worked together at the University of Chicago as recently as 2010 but also Lynx Wide Receiver's Coach
Ryan Larsen's coaching against the team he quarterbacked in 2007 and 2008.
After a Parent's Weekend contest against conference foe Birmingham Southern, the Lynx will hit the road for the first time in 2012 as they go to San Antonio to play Trinity University. This game will mark the last regular season matchup between these two former SCAC rivals. Rhodes' three game road trip continues in Texas against Austin College on October 6
th before culminating in an October 13
th matchup against Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. The meeting with Macalester will mark the first time these two national liberal arts colleges have faced each other.
Homecoming sees Rhodes returning to Memphis to play fellow SAA member Millsaps College before heading out on the road again for the Orgill Cup game at the University of the South.
The season concludes on November 10
th as the Lynx host Centre College on Senior Day.
Upon the release of the 2012 schedule, Head Coach
Dan Gritti commented that “this schedule is exciting for my staff and my players as it allows us to create some new rivalries with schools that are more similar to our academic profile than some of the schools we have played in the past. Additionally, it will give us the opportunity to play more games across the country which is more fitting for a school of Rhodes' national stature.”
