2/25/2012 9:11:00 AM

Rhodes gained separation early in the second half on Friday, February 25th to grab hold of a 64 to 53 victory over Colorado College in the first round of the SCAC tournament.  The Lynx struggled offensively over the first 20 minutes, but were able to get things rolling and pushed their lead to as many at 15 in the second half, cruising to their 11 point win.  Senior forward Kory Kilpatrick put the Lynx on his shoulders during parts of the game, as he finished with a game-high 20 points and 9 rebounds.  The Lynx move on to the semifinal game Saturday at 3:00pm against Trinity University.

The first half was a struggle for the Lynx offensively.  Rhodes shot a poor 35%, but was able to stay in the game with a terrific defensive effort that caused ten Tiger turnovers resulting in seven Lynx steals.  Rhodes battled and was able to grab a 23 - 21 at the break.

In the second half, the Lynx offensive got going.  Rhodes opened the second on a 6-0 run to give them a little separation, and then used another 10 - 2 run in the middle of the half to push their lead to 15 points with 8:18 remaining.  Colorado would attempt to push back a few times, but the Lynx responded and would not let the Tigers get any closer than six.  Rhodes knocked down their free throws late and claimed a SCAC tournament victory, their first under second year Head Coach Mike DeGeorge.

Senior leadership showed up on Friday, as Kory Kilpatrick had a career night with 20 points and 9 rebounds to pace the Lynx.  Hartwell chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds, while the hot shooting of Patrick McGrail gave him 15 points for the game.

The Lynx will move on to the Semifinals of the SCAC tournament on Saturday, February 25th at 3:00pm against Trinity University.  In the only other meeting this year against Trinity the Lynx took a tough 66 to 50 loss in San Antonio, Texas.  Rhodes will look to turn the table on Saturday and make it to the Championship.
