The Lynx insane run continued Friday, February 17th, as Junior
Andrew Galow banked a five footer off the glass with nine seconds left in overtime to give the Lynx a 61 - 60 victory over SCAC rival University of the South. A tight game in the second half saw the Lynx last second shot in regulation roll off the rim and send it to overtime. In overtime, Galow's playmaking ability took over and the Lynx notched their 11th conference win. The game-winning shot by
Andrew Galow marked his 999th and 1,000th points of his career.
Rhodes opened the game and it looked as though they might run away and hide from the Tigers of the University of the South, grabbing a 18 - 8 lead over the first nine minutes. The Tiger stormed back with the three-point shot, as Brett Bouldin paced the Tigers in scoring at the half with 10 points. A steal and layup by Tigers guard Valentino Bryant gave the University of the South their first lead of the game heading into halftime, 33 - 32.
In the second half, the Lynx and Tigers were in a battle with no team grabbing a lead of more than five points. Sophomore
Johnny Dunavant got hot for the Lynx late, scoring in multiple ways. Dunavant finished the night with 14 points. Rhodes had the ball and a chance to win the game with 13.3 seconds left in regulation, but a running left-hand layup by Galow rolled off the front of the rim and we were headed to overtime.
The see-saw battle continued in the extra period as either team could get more than a two point cushion. Down one, with 18 seconds on the clock, Rhodes pushed it up the court, found Galow and he did the rest. The Tigers got a desperation three-pointer up from their center, but it was to no avail as the Lynx stole victory again. Galow finished the night with 27 points, the last putting him at 1,000 points for his career. Galow joins 27 other Lynx alumni to score at least 1,000 points during their time at Rhodes.
Lynx-sanity continues for Rhodes, as they grab another victory in the final seconds. The Lynx improve to 11-4 in the SCAC and 16-8 overall, but carry a 5-0 record in games decided by four points or less. Rhodes ends the regular season Sunday, February 19th against Centre College. Rhodes and Centre will be battling it out for the #2 and #3 seeds in the upcoming SCAC conference tournament that begins on February 24th.
