A huge second half scoring display by Rhodes College Junior
Johnny Dunavant was not enough for the Lynx Saturday December 29th, as they fell to the University of Texas-Tyler 82 to 71. Trailing by as many as 17 points midway through the second half, Dunavant attempted to put the Lynx on his back. Dunavant scored 20 second half points, shooting 7 of 8 from the field for the half, including 3 of 4 from distance. Dunavant finished the night with a team-high 23 points, but that wasn't enough to complete the Lynx comeback. Rhodes was able to cut the lead to 7 with 7:02 remaining but would not get any closer. The University of Texas-Tyler Patriots defeated your Rhodes Lynx 82 to 71.
Rhodes fell behind early 15 to 7, but used a 17-1 run to grab their biggest lead of the night 24 to 16. From that point the Lynx struggled with turnovers and the Patriots took advantage. UT-Tyler with the help of Jordan Cannon grabbed a ten point cushion into the locker room, 42 - 32. Cannon scored 15 first half points, and finished the night with 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Early in the second half, UT-Tyler pushed their lead to a game-high 17 points. The Lynx responded with the scoring help of
Johnny Dunavant, but were not able to get any closer than 7. Rhodes out-shot the Patriots, shooting 52% from the floor, but were plagued by 19 turnovers which led to 32 points for UT-Tyler. Senior
Andrew Galow chipped in offensively with 18 points for the Lynx.
Rhodes (5-5) will be in action again tomorrow night against Austin College (3-9) at 1pm inside the friendly confines of Mallory Gym.
