Lynx Defense Clamps Down On Austin College

Rhodes used a team defensive effort on Sunday, December 30th to end the year with a victory, defeating the Austin College Roos by a score of 59 to 43.  The Lynx grabbed an early lead after the first ten minutes of play, 19-10, but were unable to push forward as Austin climbed back in to cut it to four by the half.  Rhodes clamped down defensively in the second half shutting the Roos down.  Austin shot 31% for the half, scoring only 16 points.  Rhodes ball movement resulted in open looks for the Lynx as they were able to push the lead to a game-high 20 points with 5:09 remaining.  Rhodes cruised to a 59-43 victory.

From the beginning, Rhodes defense came to play on Sunday afternoon allowing Austin to shoot only 32% from the field and 6% from the three-point line.  The Lynx flustered the Austin big men and were able to identify and close out on the primary shooters.  Austin's starting five scored only 12 points collectively.  Rhodes capped off their defensive effort by outrebounding Austin 40 to 25.

Offensively the Lynx were led by Senior Andrew Galow who scored a game-high 11 points.  Galow added 5 rebounds and 4 assists.  Senior Theo Hartwell and Junior Johnny Dunavant each chipped in with 10 points for the Lynx.  A spark off the bench came from Freshman Tate Sledge who grabbed a game-high 7 rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

Rhodes (6-5) jumps back into conference play starting Friday January 4th as they take on Berry College (2-8) in Rome, Georgia.  On the road trip the Lynx will also play conference foe Oglethorpe University (9-3) and their last non-conference opponent Covenant College (4-4).
