Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lynx Take Care of Mississippi College

The Rhodes Lynx came out fighting on Friday, December 14th grabbing a twenty point lead by halftime and finishing Mississippi College off with a 82 to 60 victory.  Rhodes used great ball movement to shoot a season high 64% in the first half while holding Mississippi College to 29%.  Early in the second half the Lynx faced adversity as Mississippi College was able to cut the lead down to one, but was never able to get over the hump.  Rhodes used a final 35 to 14 run over the last 13:00 minutes to beat Mississippi College 82 to 60.

Great ball movement against a variety of Mississippi College defenses saw the Lynx knock down open shots over the first twenty minutes.  A last second layup by Senior Theo Hartwell pushed the Lynx lead to twenty, 45 to 25.  Hartwell finished the night with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

The second half was a tail of two runs, as Mississippi College came out of the locker room with energy and jumped on the Lynx.  The pressure saw the Lynx turn the ball over 11 times during the contest, many of those early in the second half.  Mississippi College used a 21 to 2 run over the first seven minutes to cut the Rhodes lead to 1, 47 - 46.  After a pair of Lynx timeouts, Rhodes battled back and found their first half grove.  A three-point field goal by Junior Johnny Dunavant pushed the Lynx lead back to 17 with 7:32 remaining.  Dunavant had a game-high 21 points, connecting on five triples.

After Rhodes broke Mississippi College's run, the Lynx responded over the remaining 13:00 to close the game on a 35 to 14 run of their own.  Sophomore forward Geoff Livsey nearly notched a triple-double with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists.  Senior Andrew Galow also added 10 points.  Mississippi College was led by their only player in double figures, Turmonte Ragland with 16.

The victory puts the Rhodes 3-4 on the season.  They will play two more contests next weekend in the Crowne Plaza Christmas Invite before head home for a short Christmas break.  Swing by to Mallory on Friday, December 21st as the Lynx play Knox College (1-6) at 7pm.
