Lynx Open SAA Conference Play With Rousing Victory

The Rhodes Lynx opened the new SAA conference on Wednesday, November 28th in style with a rousing victory over the Hendrix College Warriors, 74 to 46.  The Lynx came out strong right from the tip opening the game on a 9-0 run over the first 3 minutes.  Hendrix was able to cut the gap to seven points on the following possession, but was never able to get any closer the rest of the night.  Rhodes climbed out to a 40 to 24 halftime lead and followed that by pushing the lead to a game high 35 with six minutes remaining.  The Lynx cruised to the top of the SAA conference (1-0) with a 74 to 46 victory.

Rhodes defensive allowed them to open up a solid lead in the first half.  Over the first 12 minutes of the game the Lynx gave up only 9 points to the Warriors, who finished the half with 22.  Offensively, the spark came from freshman forward Tate Sledge scored 11 points in the first half and finished the night a perfect 6 for 6 from the field for a career high 13 points.  Geoff Livsey's great start continued with 13 first half points to lead the Lynx to a 18 point halftime lead (40 - 22).

In the second half, the Lynx defense continued to play tough.  A team effort both offensively and defensively saw the Lynx push the lead to a game-high 35 points with six minutes remaining.  Rhodes held the Warriors to 36% shooting for the game and forced 17 turnovers.  Rhodes cruised to open the SAA in style with the 74 to 46 victory.

Twelve Lynx got into the scoring column, led by four players in double-figures, including Sledge.  Sophomore forward Geoff Livsey paced the Lynx with a game high 16 points to go along with 5 rebounds.  Seniors Andrew Galow and Theo Hartwell notched 14 and 10 points respectively, with Hartwell grabbing a game high 7 boards.  Off the bench, sophomore Drew Miller filled the stat sheet dropping 5 assists, grabbing 4 rebounds, and making 3 steals to go along with his 2 points.  Rhodes defensive held Hendrix without a double digit scorer.

The win moves the Lynx with (2-3) on the young season and opens the newly formed SAA conference with a victory putting them atop of the conference early on.  Rhodes will be back in action again this Saturday, December 1st against Emory University (3-2).  Come support the Lynx as the first number of fans will receive a free t-shirt!
